Gretchen Wegner is a lively speaker, master teacher, and creative strategist on how to rethink learning and teaching the anti-boring way. A former classroom teacher turned academic coach, she founded the Anti-Boring Learning Lab, an online professional community where academic coaches, executive function coaches, tutors, and student support professionals gather to learn science-backed study skills and executive function strategies every student needs to thrive. What started as a toolkit Gretchen built for her own students grew into a certification platform now used by hundreds of coaches worldwide.
She is best known for her Anti-Boring Approach to Powerful Studying, combining brain science with practical, executive-function-friendly strategies that help educators turn students into more effective, engaged, and self-sufficient learners. Teachers, tutors, and coaches around the world use Anti-Boring tools to reach a wide range of students, including but not limited to:
– those with ADHD and other diagnosed learning disabilities;
– first-generation, low-income college students;
– students struggling with anxiety, overwhelm, and perfectionism;
– the unmotivated as well as the high-achieving; and
– those in the middle who have fallen through the cracks of overworked school systems.
Gretchen’s gift is distilling the science of learning into fun, digestible nuggets for educators, then translating that science into concrete strategies students can actually use. Anyone attending her presentations leaves ready to take action, in small ways and large. She has spoken at SXSW EDU, ResearchEd NYC, and Seth Perler’s TEFOS summit, and hosts the Academic Coaching Podcast.
A former Fulbright Fellow, Gretchen holds a Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction and was a credentialed middle and high school teacher. An advocate of playful rigor in school and life, she is also a public speaker, improvisational performer, lindy hop dancer, avid backpacker, and proud resident of Oakland, California.
