What you’ll learn

Workshop 1: Get supports written into an IEP or 504

  • How parents can request a comprehensive executive-function assessment using multiple tools instead of relying only on screeners or behavior rating scales.
  • How IDEA and Section 504 can support requests to assess all suspected areas of disability and create measurable goals tied to identified needs.
  • Practical advocacy strategies, including asking clear questions in meetings, participating meaningfully, documenting agreements, and requesting appropriate parent and staff training.

Workshop 2: 5 strategies to support EF in the classroom

  • Five classroom strategies that strengthen organization, attention, and self-regulation: visual timers, color-coding, checklists, movement breaks, and smaller task steps.
  • How to use executive-function supports within 504 plans and IEPs, distinguish accommodations from goals, and respond when agreed supports are not implemented.
  • Why educators should individualize support, document decisions, consider home factors, collaborate with families, and celebrate small gains.
